Xi'an reports strong foreign trade growth in first 5 months

In the first five months of this year, Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, achieved 165.4 billion yuan ($25.52 billion) in total foreign trade, a year-on-year increase of 19.5 percent, accounting for 92 percent of the province's total.

In May alone, the city's foreign trade amounted to 39.49 billion yuan, an increase of 37.3 percent compared with May of last year, setting a new record high.

During these five months, Xi'an's general trade and bonded logistics imports and exports saw rapid growth, coming in at 39.57 billion yuan and 21.65 billion yuan, increases of 46.1 percent and 47.3 percent, respectively.

The city reported increases of 10.8 percent and 29.4 percent, respectively, in trade with South Korea and the European Union to 39.74 billion yuan and 18.51 billion yuan.

Meanwhile, the city's trade with countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative reported growth of 18.6 percent to 25.09 billion yuan.

In terms of trade entities, imports and exports of foreign-invested enterprises accounted for more than 60 percent of the city's total, while those of private enterprises and state-owned enterprises also increased significantly.

Exports of mechanical and electrical products, solar cells, and automobiles increased, generating 75.16 billion yuan, 7.48 billion yuan, and 1.77 billion yuan, respectively, increases of 23.9 percent, 117.3 percent, and 113.8 percent.

Among imported goods, semiconductor manufacturing equipment, copper ore, and edible oil increased significantly.
