Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, ranked fourth among 15 new first-tier cities, according to the 2021 city commercial charm list released on May 27 by Chinese financial news outlet Yicai.

Through the commercial shop data of 170 mainstream consumer brands, the user behavior data of 17 leading internet companies, and the big data of city data agencies, the list measures the commercial charm of 337 cities at the prefecture level and above in China.

The other new first-tier cities are, in sequence: Chengdu, Hangzhou, Chongqing, Suzhou, Wuhan, Nanjing, Tianjin, Zhengzhou, Changsha, Dongguan, Foshan, Ningbo, Qingdao and Shenyang.

The most populous city in Shaanxi province, Xi'an reported a total population of 12.95 million in 2020, an increase of 4.49 million over 2010, accounting for 32.77 percent of the province's population.
